Ten days into the horrific three-pronged disaster striking Japan — a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, tsunami, and ongoing nuclear crisis devastating the northeast section of the country and dealing a terrible blow to so many in the region — it’s time to focus on doing all we can to help. As a nonprofit professional committed to alleviating human pain and suffering, this column is a dedicated call-to-action to help the people of Japan during this extraordinary time of need.

Not unlike the December 2004 tsunami that devastated Indonesia, the scope of the disaster indicates that parts of Japan will be recovering and rebuilding for quite some time. Long after the headlines and saturation media coverage fade, people will still be suffering. Consider your donation a small down payment on the long road ahead.
