Development of Sumo Citrus in US

Sumo Citrus looks like a wrinkly orange with a knob on the top. It actually is a hybrid of navel oranges, mandarins and pomelos and tastes extra-sweet. Sumo citrus is easy to peel because of its knobby surface, and does not make your finger sticky.
Sumo Citrus actually is the brand name for a type of fruit called shiranui and Dekopon.
This fruit was born in early 1970s in Japan. By the 1990s, it had became beloved fruit in Japan.
After AC brands, a fruit company, had made efforts for many years, it was able to establish shiranui groves in California. In order to make sense to US consumers, the company introduced this fruit as Sumo Citrus by 2011.  People gradually started to know this fruit through the Instagram of celebrities, magazine and ads. AC brands also distributed marketing materials to retailer to advertise the product in stories. Each and every year the companies have been selling more and more of them. However, it does not work forever. Its competition, Fowler Packing, has come.
