GETTING NONPROFIT NEWS OUT: FREE PRESS RELEASE DISTRIBUTION AND PR TOOLS

By James D’Ambrosio

JamesProfile1TwitterAmongst nonprofit professionals, it’s well-known that smaller agencies often lack resources for public relations staff. In my experience, I’ve seen PR tasks added to the responsibilities of another employee, contracted out to a PR agency (paid or pro-bono), or handled by an intern/volunteer. If you’re in this situation, there’s free resources out there to help spread word of your good deeds: press release distribution services and a nonprofit program I recently discovered.

A REVIEW OF FREE PRESS RELEASE DISTRIBUTION SERVICES

Brian Scott, a public relations professional with 10+ years experience, recently completed an in-depth analysis of free news release distribution services, discussing findings on HubPages, a revenue-generating social content community for writers and one of the 50 most visited Web sites in the U.S. A strong proponent of free services, he evaluated them in-depth using seven criteria: 1) attracts moderate/high daily traffic to site; 2) a good Google Page rank; 3) large number of Web sites linking to it; 4) permitting “Do-Follow” links in releases; 5) disseminating releases via RSS feeds and social media; 6) growing backlinks to company Web site; and 7) boosts ranking in search-engine results.

Some of his top selections for 2013:

A FREE PROGRAM FOR NONPROFITS

In addition, sbwire.com (listed above), offers SBWIRE FOR NONPROFITS, providing free services in addition to news distribution: A) Hosted News Room Pro, providing media and site visitors detailed information about your agency — news, background and history — plus an online image/multimedia library option; B) SBWire for Groups Pro, allowing groups of organizations to create a centralized newsroom; and C) SBWire Connect, a social networking system.

Note: Only a limited number of nonprofits are accepted for membership, and political organizations are not eligible. Applying is simple: submit a brief online application and receive notification by e-mail regarding a decision on acceptance.

  1. So if this may be the case, how come espresso considered more caffeinated than
a regular cup of java. It is as a consequence of
this that people are always inside search for the
best home coffee brewer out there. Also, regular
ground coffee should be in contact with all the water for between six to eight min.

  3. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s
both equally educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy I stumbled across this in my hunt for something
    regarding this.

  4. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog.
Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up

  5. What do you do when you have to give a gift to a person
whom you don’t know much about. With just few days remaining before Christmas, you might already be worried on thinking about the best gift
you can give your husband. Hopefully, this will help
you pick out a perfect dog toy for Christmas for your dog.

  6. This saves you a lot of time if you’re a frequent traveler, as it prevents you
from having to remove your backpack every time you go through security.
You wouldn’t want anything within your bag poking you in the back, why
would you think your dog would. To do this I still put a large
plastic bag in my backpack and pack everything in this.

  7. Howdy, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar

    • Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my blog posts. Yes, I do get some spam, but WordPress has Akismet, which filters out just about all spam messages. Really not aware of any apps or plug-ins for spam.

  9. Great info about the SBWIRE non-profit service. I was a little confused about the “About these ads” link below your two questions to readers. Are you receiving compensation for providing these links?

    • Dear Mr. Kotowski:

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on this blog post. To answer your question, the “About These Ads” link is from WordPress, not me. WordPress is now allowing ads to appear on blogs as a source of revenue and, I imagine, to keep WordPress free to use for bloggers. I do not receive any compensation whatsoever. The last words I write on each post are the questions — nothing below it. Hope this helps.
