Welcome To My Blog – A Resource For Professionals

By James D’Ambrosio

As a communications professional with significant experience in the nonprofit sector, I am starting this site to share my ideas and insights about how nonprofit agencies can leverage communication strategies to increase their reach and effectiveness. Given the many millions of people in the U.S. and the around the world suffering various indignities —  chronic illness, poverty, unemployment, homelessness, disability, effects of natural disasters, displacement by war, etc . — it is imperative that nonprofits work smarter and more efficiently.

Collaboration, Comments Welcome

This site is designed to be a collaborative forum sharing ideas and information that can improve nonprofit operations, allowing agencies to help more people in the aggregate. At a time when many agencies are experiencing record service demands and declining government support, nonprofit organizations need every possible advantage to bolster their bottom line and serve constituents. Insightful reader comments are always welcome and actively encouraged.

What I’ll Write About

A broad range of communications strategies and topics will be discussed, including donor communications, direct-mail, fund-raising, executive communications, board governance/ relations, social media strategies, newsletters, Web sites, and a variety of management issues — hiring staff and consultants, resource management, board composition and responsibilities, etc. Drawing on more than 10 years of experience as a public relations practitioner in the nonprofit/public sector and formal study in nonprofit management (this fall I’ll complete a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Long Island University), I’ll share timely, useful ideas and information that readers can use.

Professional Perspective

We can all learn from each other: I do not purport to have all the answers. People working in different industries with different areas of expertise can help all of us broaden our knowledge and become more well-rounded professionals. This, in turn, enhances our ability to serve our agencies and the causes they champion.

Please take a few moments to review some of the resources I have gathered for this site. I look forward to serving nonprofit professionals and the industry as a whole.
